The head of a bird can be divided into several areas, each with its special name; see picture. The main ones are (from the bill going backwards), dorsally (back-side): forehead, crown, hindneck; laterally: lore, cheek, earcoverts, side of neck; and ventrally (front-side): chin, throat and foreneck.
