Most common name (British) for Erithacus rubecula, but the name has been applied in the English-speaking world to local species resembling the prototype in being redbreasted (or in other ways); e.g. in North America to the familiar Turdus migratorius, the Indian Robin Saxicoloides fulicata which is a chat (subfamily Turdinae) and other species of Turdinae ('scrub-robin, 'bush-robin'). In the Australasian Region the name is used for various Muscicapinae (flycatchers and related) species.
