There are two sexes in animals; male and female, beside hermaphrodites which are both, which (except some forms) have to mate with each other to reproduce. Sex is (a.o.) the sum of all characteristics (behavioural, functional, structural, genetic) distinguishing males and females (or hermaphrodites). The difference in appearance between males and females in birds ranges between invisible to enormous.
