In this family there is a unique combination of triangular nodes at distal end of barbules and kinked distal internodes. Please note, sometimes no triangular nodes are found and only prongs are seen. Species examined within this family: Cygnus olor, Anser albifrons, Anser anser, Tadorna tadorna, Anas penelope, Anas crecca, Anas platyrhynchos, Anas acuta, Anas querquedula, Anas clypeata, Marmaronetta angustirostris, Netta rufina, Aythya ferina, Aythya nyroca, Aythya fuligula, Somateria mollissima.
