Sharply pointed and recurved villi at the bases of barbules are a unique character for this order. Nodes are pigmented, bell- and vase-shaped and equally distributed along the entire length of the barbule. Species examined within this order: Jynx torquilla, Dendrocopos major, Dendrocopos syriacus.
